Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool

After a good win at home to Hull city in the EFL cup, United hosted a rejuvenated Liverpool side who were looking for anything but three points at Old Trafford. United with a win would be level on points with Manchester City in 5th place after their side was smashed 4-0 by Ronald Koeman's Everton. The game saw the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic who recovered from illness in time to face Liverpool. Liverpool were without Mane who had departured for the AFCON and Joel Matip who was banned by FA after refusing to play in the AFCON. Philippe Countinho was named on the bench along Daniel Sturridge and a young debutante Alexander-Arnold started at rightback in place of Nathaniel Clyne. Manchester United started with the usual with Rojo and Jones at centreback, Valencia and Darmian at rightback and leftback respectively. Carrick, Herrera and Pogba in midfield, Mkhitaryan and Martial on the wing with Zlatan upfront. The game started rather unusually, as Paul Pogba's bizarre handball gave away a penalty to Liverpool which was sealed by James Milner to give Liverpool the lead. Many missed opportunities by Pogba and Mkhitaryan as it remained 1-0 at half time. United were looking desperately to score an equalizer and maybe even win the game. The hard work eventually paid off as Fellaini's header hit the post which was then crossed back to Zlatan by Valencia who headed home the equalizer for the Red Devils. The match ended in a draw with United remaining two points behind City in fifth place. In other news, Memphis Depay's transfer to Lyon was confirmed by the club also indicating a buyback clause in the deal. Up next for United was a trip to Stoke on Saturday in the Premier League, will they get the three points?
